Zomato has quietly launched a 15-minute food delivery service, intensifying competition in the rapidly growing quick commerce (q-commerce) segment. The service, currently accessible in select areas of Mumbai and Bangalore, has not been officially announced but is live on the Zomato app. Users can now spot a dedicated "15-minute delivery" tab in the app&rsquo;s explore section, featuring quick-to-prepare and ready-to-eat dishes from nearby restaurants.
To ensure delivery within 15 minutes, Zomato is adopting a model similar to Swiggy&rsquo;s Bolt, restricting orders to restaurants within a two-kilometer radius.
Rising Trend in Quick Commerce
Zomato&rsquo;s entry into the ultra-fast delivery market highlights the growing importance of rapid delivery as a key differentiator in the food delivery industry. This move follows the success of its quick commerce unit, Blinkit, which is set to launch 'Bistro,' a service that promises delivery of healthy snacks, juices, and meals within minutes.
The competition in the q-commerce space is heating up, with Swiggy&rsquo;s Bolt, launched in October 2024, already accounting for 5% of its total food delivery orders. Zepto has also expanded its footprint with the launch of a separate app, Zepto Cafe, focusing on ultra-fast food delivery.
Meanwhile, Ola has rolled out its 10-minute food delivery service, Ola Dash, in Bengaluru, with plans for nationwide expansion. Last year, Reliance&rsquo;s JioMart announced its intent to enter the quick commerce arena with a promise of 30-minute deliveries. Additionally, Myntra has reportedly piloted a 30-minute delivery service for select brands in Bengaluru.
Market Impact
Despite the buzz around Zomato&rsquo;s latest move, its stock reflected a dip, trading at ₹247.05 on the BSE as of 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, down 2.16%. The introduction of 15-minute delivery underscores the growing emphasis on convenience and speed in the q-commerce industry, as players continue to innovate to capture consumer demand.
