Databricks Inc., a leading US-based data and AI company, has announced plans to invest more than $250 million in India over the next three years, significantly ramping up its presence in the country to accelerate artificial intelligence innovation.
The San Francisco-headquartered firm, one of the world&rsquo;s most valuable privately held tech companies, will increase its India workforce by over 50%, taking the headcount to approximately 750 by the end of the current fiscal year. As part of this expansion, Databricks will double the number of engineers at its recently opened Bangalore research center, bringing the total to over 200.
This move positions India as a key part of Databricks&rsquo; global R&amp;D network, which also includes centers in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Mountain View, California. The company, founded in 2013, develops platforms that unify data aggregation, analysis, and distribution &mdash; capabilities that are central to the growing demand for AI-powered tools and services.
&ldquo;India is emerging as a global AI talent hub,&rdquo; said Rochana Golani, Vice President of Learning and Enablement at Databricks.
In addition to hiring, Databricks will launch an AI and Data Academy in India aimed at training 500,000 partners and customers over the next three years, fostering skill development and AI literacy across the ecosystem.
Earlier this year, Databricks raised over $15 billion through equity and debt financing, drawing investment from tech giant Meta Platforms Inc., global lenders, and sovereign funds from Singapore and Qatar. The company&rsquo;s valuation now stands at approximately $62 billion, and it continues to operate as a private entity.
With this major investment and expansion, Databricks is positioning itself to be a major player in India&rsquo;s rapidly growing AI and data ecosystem.
