Kolkata-based B2B SaaS startup Data Sutram has raised $9 million (₹77 crore) in a Series A funding round, co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and B Capital. The round includes a mix of primary and secondary transactions, with early angel investors partially exiting.
Founded in 2018 by Rajit Bhattacharya, Ankit Das, and Aisik Paul, Data Sutram began by offering risk and fraud detection solutions to the banking and lending sectors. With this latest infusion of capital, the startup plans to bolster its AI-powered fraud detection platform, DS Authenticate, and expand into high-risk sectors including cryptocurrency, real-time payments, gaming, e-commerce, quick commerce, and insurance.
The flagship product, DS Authenticate, leverages data from over 250 sources to identify potential fraud during customer onboarding and assigns a &lsquo;Trust Score&rsquo;, aiding financial institutions in mitigating risks such as mule accounts and non-performing assets (NPAs) in NBFCs.
Currently operating with a team of 65 employees, Data Sutram aims to use the funds to scale its workforce and accelerate global expansion. CEO Rajit Bhattacharya stated, &ldquo;This investment will allow us to enhance our product offering, scale our customer base, and strengthen our presence globally to serve more institutions and businesses.&rdquo;
The latest funding round marks a significant milestone in Data Sutram&rsquo;s journey to becoming a key player in AI-driven risk intelligence solutions.
