Chargebee, a leading SaaS firm specializing in revenue management and customer retention, has acquired Trainn, an AI-first customer tracking platform founded in 2020. The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, though Trainn had previously raised approximately ₹6 crore in seed funding from Speciale Invest and other investors.
With this acquisition, Trainn&rsquo;s 200 customers will now transition to Chargebee, expanding the company&rsquo;s customer base in a rapidly evolving AI-driven industry.
Strengthening AI Capabilities in SaaS
Krish Subramanian, co-founder and CEO of Chargebee, highlighted the acquisition as a step toward enhancing AI adoption in the SaaS sector.
&ldquo;Joining hands with Trainn presents an exciting opportunity for both Chargebee and Trainn in advancing our shared vision of enabling customers in a rapidly changing, innovation-driven market through AI,&rdquo; Subramanian stated in an internal memo on March 27.
The move underscores the growing importance of AI in SaaS. Industry leaders have weighed in on the trend, with Freshworks founder Girish Mathrubootham emphasizing that AI is crucial for SaaS providers to stay competitive. Meanwhile, Zoho CEO Manikandan Vembu has cautioned that while AI is essential, it should complement&mdash;rather than replace&mdash;traditional software solutions.
Second Acquisition in a Month
This marks Chargebee&rsquo;s second major acquisition within a month. The company recently acquired Inai, a software firm specializing in payment tracking and management, to explore AI-driven improvements in billing processes and customer experiences.
Subramanian noted that with the increasing complexity of payments&mdash;spanning digital wallets, buy-now-pay-later services, and real-time transfers&mdash;automated tracking and analytics powered by AI have become essential.
Chargebee, valued at $3.5 billion after raising $250 million in a Series H round in February 2022, is backed by investors such as Tiger Global, Peak XV, Insight Partners, Sapphire, and Steadview Capital.
