In a strategic move to address customer uncertainty amid the anticipated India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), BMW Group India has announced a price protection assurance program for the MINI 3-Door Cooper S, imported from the UK.
The offer, available for a limited period of 180 days, ensures that customers who purchase the model during this window will receive a refund for any price reduction resulting from potential duty cuts under the FTA. The initiative is aimed at encouraging immediate purchases despite the current ambiguity surrounding import duties.
BMW Group India President and CEO Vikram Pawah said, &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve received multiple inquiries from customers about whether they should buy now or wait. With this program, we are protecting their purchase decision for the next six months.&rdquo;
The assurance covers the MINI 3-Door Cooper S, currently priced at ₹44.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle, a completely built-up unit from BMW&rsquo;s Oxford plant, currently attracts a 70% basic customs duty. The price protection ensures that if duties are reduced and reflected in the ex-showroom price, the dealership will refund the difference between the original invoice and the new price.
The India-UK FTA, concluded earlier this month, proposes significant tariff reductions&mdash;from over 100% to 10%&mdash;on a quota basis for automotive imports. However, duty-free quotas for electric vehicles remain limited to a few thousand units.
BMW confirmed that the all-electric MINI Countryman, manufactured in Leipzig, Germany and priced at ₹54.9 lakh, is not included under this offer.
The MINI brand saw sales of 150 units in Q1 2025 and 709 units in 2024 across India.
This bold move by BMW is expected to instill confidence in buyers and boost MINI sales ahead of the FTA's full implementation.
