In a significant leadership move, Amitesh Kumar Sinha has been reappointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), signaling renewed strategic focus as the country enters the next phase of its semiconductor push. Sinha replaces Sushil Pal and returns to a role he previously held, bringing continuity and deep institutional knowledge to the mission.
Sinha&rsquo;s reappointment comes shortly after his elevation as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) earlier this month. The move aligns with the government&rsquo;s preparations to launch the second phase of the ISM&mdash;an ambitious initiative with a financial outlay of ₹76,000 crore aimed at establishing a robust semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in India.
The mission is central to India&rsquo;s goal of reducing dependency on imported semiconductors and building a resilient supply chain for electronics manufacturing. As a 1996-batch officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service and a civil engineering graduate from Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur, Sinha brings decades of experience in policymaking and administration.
During his earlier tenure as Joint Secretary and now Additional Secretary at MeitY, Sinha has played a key role in shaping policies for the electronics sector, including the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for mobile devices, IT hardware, semiconductors, and electronic components. These initiatives are part of the broader Semicon India Programme to attract investments and strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities.
His return is widely seen as a move to ensure policy continuity and sharpen execution at a time when global semiconductor supply chains are undergoing realignments and international interest in India's semiconductor landscape is growing.
