Social commerce major Meesho has officially restructured itself into a public company, marking a significant step toward its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO) on Indian stock exchanges.
The Bengaluru-based firm recently transitioned its legal status from Meesho Private Limited to Meesho Limited, a key regulatory requirement under Indian law for companies aiming to go public. This move signals Meesho's growing readiness to enter public markets after nearly a decade of aggressive growth in India&rsquo;s competitive e-commerce space.
Founded in 2015 by Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, Meesho began as a platform for resellers and has since evolved into a direct-to-consumer (D2C) online marketplace. Its zero-commission model has made it popular among millions of small sellers and value-conscious consumers, particularly from India&rsquo;s Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
The company currently boasts over 150 million annual transacting users and strong performance in affordable fashion, home products, and beauty categories, cementing its position as a key disruptor in India&rsquo;s e-commerce ecosystem.
Notably, Meesho turned profitable in FY24 and has remained cash-flow positive for several quarters, setting it apart as one of the few Indian startups of its scale to achieve profitability ahead of its IPO.
Industry sources suggest that Meesho is preparing to file its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) in the coming months and is exploring an IPO in the range of $300&ndash;500 million, though the final size will depend on prevailing market conditions.
With backing from top-tier investors including SoftBank, Prosus Group, Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital India), and Meta, Meesho&rsquo;s IPO is expected to be a closely watched event, potentially serving as a key indicator of investor appetite in India&rsquo;s consumer-tech sector.
