Bajaj Auto Ltd has approved an investment of up to &euro;150 million (₹1,364 crore) in its wholly-owned subsidiary, Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV (BAIH BV), Netherlands, to support its investment opportunities.
In a regulatory filing on Friday, the company stated that the investment could take the form of equity capital, preference capital, or a loan (convertible or otherwise) and will be made in one or more tranches by March 31, 2026, based on funding requirements. The Reserve Bank of India has granted the necessary approval for the foreign investment.
While Bajaj Auto did not disclose specific investment plans, the development comes amid speculation that the company may increase its stake in financially troubled KTM AG, the Austrian bikemaker undergoing judicial restructuring.
Through BAIH BV, Bajaj Auto currently holds a 49.9% stake in its Austrian associate, Pierer Bajaj AG (PBAG), with the controlling stake held by Pierer Industrie AG. PBAG, in turn, holds nearly 75% of Pierer Mobility AG (PMAG), the parent company of KTM AG.
Bajaj Auto and KTM have a long-standing partnership, with Bajaj developing and manufacturing sub-400cc KTM motorcycles for the Indian market and exports. While Bajaj Auto manages KTM's business in India, KTM AG oversees exports to key markets like the US and Europe.
Last year, KTM confirmed that the judicial restructuring of Pierer Mobility AG would not affect co-developed products with Bajaj Auto for India and select export markets. However, it has impacted exports from Austria, India, and China to KTM&rsquo;s major international markets.
This strategic investment signals Bajaj Auto's continued focus on global partnerships and potential expansion in the premium motorcycle segment.
